Birthplace: My name is Margelis Teresa Betín Guzmán de Benítez. My parent's names are: Teresa Guzmán Borja and Manuel Betín Herrera. I have 1 brother and 2 half brothers from a second marriage: Gustavo Gonzáles (43), Sonia Gonzáles (41), Jorge Gonzáles (38), and Samuel (29). I was born on April 30, 1975, in Corozal, in the State of Sucre, Columbia .

How I came to know Christ: I was born in a Christian family and I grew up going to church and mainly attending Sunday School. Although I was faithful to church and grew up knowing the things of God from an early age, I truly accepted the Lord when I was 19 years old. I lived with my older half-siblings as if they were my own because they did not get along with my father since the death of their mother really affected them. It did help that my father was a Christian and handled things in a better way. Contrary to the general rule, I never got away from the things of God. However I didn't help out with much at all at the church. I only attended the youth meetings and sometimes the childrens activities but my real job within the ministry came after being saved.

How Christ has changed my Life: Once saved, I began to help out in the church. I would leave my town and help with the children classes. I was involved with the intercession ministry in which we would pray and submit “cast out the demons” which was obviously a perversion of the truth doctrine. We were taught about prophecy and things like that which I don't believe now that I have the knowledge of the truth. Either way I really enjoyed working for the Lord. My sister, Sonia is working as the wife of Pastor Abelardo Vergara. They are working in a church called “The Upper Room” Church. My oldest and youngest brothers are saved but have strayed from the things of God. My younger brother is not saved although he's been in church his whole life. He does sometimes visit but because of the bad company he is with, he has really gotten away from God.

My Calling into the Ministry: I always considered that marriage to a pastor was not for me and so I refused it. However alter having met my husband I fell in love and all everything that had always been horrible for me was what I desired with a passion and I began to like the ministry a lot more than before. I had not studied anywhere prior to coming here. That is why I came to prepare here and it has been a total blessing. When my husband first wanted to come to study in Peru I didn't want to because I didn't want to have to leave my country. I had never traveled out of Colombia and it was hard for me but it turned out to be the best submission class because I decided to follow my husband. The Seminary has been a total blessing to me because I haven't really cried at all. I am usually a crybaby and even in Colombia when I was far from my family and my home. I cried when I left Colombia but the Seminary has been like one giant home for me and I love the people here. I feel very much at home and it is like I have known these people all my life. I feel as if I was in my own country. The classes in the Seminary have been a challenge especially Brother Miguel Murillo classes. Many of them require a lot of dedication in order to understand and learn. However I am hanging in there knowing that it is all for the benefit of the ministry. The Seminary has meant a great deal of responsibility, dedication to my studies and a high level of preparation. I have learned many things. Things about the correct doctrine and about the erroneous teaching I received in the past. I have been learning and continue to grow.

My Plans for the Future: My husband and I have been praying about where God would have us go. My husband loves the warmer climate and would like to have a place where to begin a church.. If it were God's will I would like to stay and work here but I know that wherever God sends my husband is where my place will be. I want to be the help that he needs and thus do the Lord's work. Wherever God puts us is where I would like to work somehow with ladies because I honestly am very nervous and fearful of leading women in the church. However my desire is prepare myself in order to be ready for this precise opportunity.
